I have 2 clerics at 50, one is a guardian, the other Defiant.  Haven’t tried end game raiding, but Rift at 50 is not for casuals.  It’s a grindfeast and basically, the older players are going to have a big advantage over newer players, especially in PvP, and unless you like grinding, it’s not easy to close that gap between the older and newer.  PvE, it’s not too bad, as you have a lot of choices open up to you.  You got Raid dailies, where you can not only get some gear, but some stones to buy planar essences with (Think gems in WoW here).  You can do dungeons to get pve gear as well.  You can make your own epics too and you can go open Rifts that will drop you mats to make some of that gear.PvP is a joke and the only way to get good is to grind ‘rank’ and get gear.  Once you hit rank 6 out of like 8, you’ll finally feel like you can contribute to your team.  They’ve made it easier, but if anyone remembers the vanilla grind for PvP, you’re reliving the nightmare all over again minus the decay.  Hence why I’ve said longer players have a huge advantage.  Not to mention, all it is is a dps AoE vs a Healing AoE feast.  Basically, does the dps have enough AoE to take the other team down?  Very rarely do I see people actually plan something in pvp besides either zerging points in the codex (The AB of the game), or just AoE zerging the opposite team.  This probably is more dependant on the battleground group than anything, so it may vary from server to server.All in all, Rift definitely isn’t for everyone and it definitely isn’t a game you can really play alongside WoW, because if you want do real end game content, you basically have to dump a lot of time and energy into it unless you already have friends who are at end game content in Rift.  Fun experience overall.
I found the game world to be a bit bland and unexciting after a while.Once you get to the stage where the rifts are no longer interesting your interest in the game really dives because its underlying game world/story is pretty shallow and uninteresting.  I don’t think they really put as much effort into story and developing their factions/races as they could have.I did go back and try the game again with the recent free access with the last patch but found my 50 cleric ran out of stuff to do in less than an hour, even after not playing the game in months.
