why did the Krytans decide to help Ascalon in the first place?

Tuesday, November 22nd, 2011

There was a group of Ascalonians (on the run from the Charr, led by Prince Rurik) who were looking for refuge in Kryta. The White Mantle welcomed them, but then (see the missions ‘The Wilds’ and ‘Bloodstone Fen’) the Ascalonians discovered that all was not what it seemed, and that the Shining Blade were actually the good guys. So the Ascalonians (and you, the player/the Chosen) helped the Shining Blade in their fight against the White Mantle and the Mursaat, and the Krytans offered shelter to many of the Ascalonian refugees. In addition, the Ascalonians were offered their own settlement to the north of Lion’s Arch. A large group of Ascalonians moved there, to found their own community.
In the meantime, however, another group of Ascalonians had decided to take the fight straight to the Charr. They grouped up and invaded the Charr Homelands (this is how the Ebon Vanguard came into existence). They used an ancient tower as their base: the Eye of the North.
Some time thereafter, during the so-called War in Kryta events, Evennia travels to the Eye of the North and asks the Ebon Vanguard for help in driving out the White Mantle for good, in return for everything Kryta has done for the Ascalonian refugees.
Arrival at Kryta offers little rest for the players as they discover that the land of Kryta is beset by the plague of an undead legion led by a figure called the Lich Lord. After helping the White Mantle (the order that rules Kryta) repel another wave of undead in the Gates of Kryta mission, the Mantle extend welcome to Ascalonians, offering them a settlement north of their capital Lion’s Arch. The White Mantle also enlist the players’ aid in defeating the undead hordes.

D3 Beta Opt-in

I hate to be a buzz kill but I have bad feelings about Diablo 3. The main reason I'm saying this is because Bliz decided to add a second auction house into the game… That uses REAL money. I've always thought item shops that give you power were game breaking, but this is a new low. Not only that, but I hear Bliz manages to charge you 3 times as a sort of “tax” for using the service every time you buy an item. Something along the lines of a fee for putting an item up for offer, item tax, etc. For a company of the calibre and reputation of Blizzard this is just disgraceful.
Had a look at the game you linked Centaur, looks interesting. One funny thing I noticed in the FAQ though: “but we anticipate entering public closed beta”. Now, maybe I'm missing something here but would a -public- closed beta not be more like an…. Open beta? Anyway, another Diablo style game I'm hearing of a bit is “Grim Dawn”, which will be a “spiritual sequel” to Titan Quest.
“public” closed beta for Path of Exile means that for several weeks they plan to allow approx. 100 people (forum members) a week into closed beta… so they're slowly increasing the number of people in closed beta, while in the meantime they keep adding more content to the game, and finishing several as yet unfinished parts. Full open beta will be a few months later, once they have finished the content.
I'm looking forward to the game like I would a offline title. Maybe something to play casually with friends like Marvel Ultimate Alliance. I don't see my self marrying myself to the game like some MMOs so something like a cash shop wouldn't break the experience for me.
